Washington College: Your Revolution Starts Here
Mark Stevens

Mark Stevens '07

Now a full-time graduate student at the University of Delaware on full scholarship, Mark Stevens '07 cultivated his passion for public service as a double Political Science and Economics Major at Washington College. Serving as a legislative intern as part of the department's Maryland General Assembly Internship program in Annapolis was especially rewarding to Mark, who says that this experience "ultimately led me to pursue my Masters in Public Administration." While an undergraduate, he also worked as a summer fellow with the Maryland Department of Transportation.

Mark's key to success at Washington College was his enthusiastic participation in a number of political opportunities offered both in and out of the classroom. In addition to his internship experiences, Mark enjoyed participating in the Model UN program and was active in various on-campus clubs. Mark's accomplishments were honored at commencement when he was awarded the 2007 Louis L. Goldstein Award, which recognizes the graduate most likely to make an impact in public affairs.

Some of his favorite classes at Washington College included State and Local Politics, Minority Politics, International Political Economy, and US-Latin American Relations. Mark describes the professors in the Political Science Department as "amazing individuals" who are quite accomplished in their fields. "One of the benefits of being a political science major is the department's effort to form close relationships with its students through open-door policies, events, and student activities," he notes. "This benefits students in many ways, as they receive invaluable advice on course offerings, internships, study abroad and other career opportunities."
