Biography

Professor Wade, who joined the faculty of Washington College in the fall of 2003, received her B.A. from Agnes Scott College in 1994, her M.A. from Georgia State University in 1996, and her Ph.D. from Boston University in 2002. She has traveled throughout Central America and the Caribbean, spending time at the Universidad Centroamericana "José Simeón Cañas" (UCA), and conducting her dissertation field research in El Salvador. She was an electoral observer for the Tribunal Supremo Electoral in the 2000 Municipal Elections in El Salvador and conducted further research in El Salvador in March 2004 and Fall 2006.

Professor Wade is a specialist in the international and comparative politics of Latin America. She is the co-author of Understanding Central America: Global Forces, Rebellion and Change (Westview Press, 2005) which addresses the role of domestic and global political and economic forces in shaping rebellion and regime change in the region. Her co-authored book A Revolução Salvadorenha (The Salvadoran Revolution) is as part of the Revolutions of the Twentieth Century Collection at São Paulo: Fundação Editora Da UNESP (2006). Dr. Wade is currently working on a manuscript on post war politics in El Salvador, as well as articles on the Salvadoran left and the politics of gang violence in Central America.

Prior to coming to Washington College, Dr. Wade taught courses at Boston University and Northeastern University. At Washington College she offers courses on international politics, Latin American politics, U.S - Latin American relations, revolutions and political violence, the politics of development, and peace processes. She is the coordinator of Washington College's summer seminar in Cuba (on hiatus) and is the advisor to study abroad programs in Peru and Argentina. She is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Washington College International Studies Review, an undergraduate publication that features research from all fields of study with international themes.
